Feasts of the Lord- Pentecost: the Law & the Spirit.

During our previous episode, we touched on how Passover feast was, during the period of the feast of Unleavened Bread ?

Unleavened Bread means bread made with no yeast. And in the New Testament, it was explained that in the case of Unleavened Bread, yeast signified sin (1 Corinthians 5:7-8), just as the bread represented the people.

It’s why God instructed His people to eat Unleavened Bread for Passover, signifying freedom from the bondage of sin. That is, a new creation, free from sin.

However, for the Feast of Pentecost (or Weeks), God instructed the people to bake loaves of Bread with Leaven (yeast) and offer it to Him (Leviticus 23:17)
Why ??

After they left Egypt on the Passover, they arrived at Mount Sinai, and Moses returned with the tablets of God’s Law at the time of Pentecost.

Now this Feast of Pentecost then, represented the giving of the Law and the establishment of the covenant, now known as the Old Covenant or the Covenant of Moses.
(Read Exodus 19)

However, right after they promised to do all that was in the law…they turned around to worship a golden calf right on that same mountain ??‍♂️

Moses got angry ? and broke the tablets. Well, afterwards he was commanded to craft the tablets by himself, lol.

Anyways. Back to the sweet part 〽️
Why Leavened bread ??

Because God knew. He knew his people would sin against Him. But He still wanted them like that. That’s why He accepted leavened bread.

Paul expressed that in Romans 7 to Romans 8. He stated that, no matter how much he wants to do good and follow the Law.. Sin shows it’s ugly head.

Check this out in the Message translation ??

For if I know the law but still can’t keep it, and if the power of sin within me keeps sabotaging my best intentions, I obviously need help! I realize that I don’t have what it takes. I can will it, but I can’t do it. I decide to do good, but I don’t really do it; I decide not to do bad, but then I do it anyway. My decisions, such as they are, don’t result in actions. Something has gone wrong deep within me and gets the better of me every time.

Romans 7:17-20 MSG

That is why God accepted leaven (yeast) with the bread on the day of the Feast, the day that He gave the Law. Man couldn’t handle sin on their own…so until then, God had to love and work with them like that. How wonderful.

He knew the remedy and set it in motion. What was the remedy?

1. Sin has to be dealt with and it’s power broken.

2. Man had to be removed from the lineage of Adam, and born anew as a new creature.

Lemme use this verse of Scripture:

And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.

Ezekiel 36:27 NIV

We needed God’s Spirit in us to cause us to walk in His ways. We needed the Holy Spirit

So see what God does ?

After Jesus fulfilled the Passover to take care of the Sin of the World…

In the Next Feast – Pentecost,
God does Something awesome ?

Instead of sending the Law… He sends The Holy Spirit ????
To teach us, guide us, give us power, make us rule, and cause us to walk in His ways, as the kings and queens that we are ?

On Mount Sinai, during the first Pentecost…when the law was given, they broke the covenant by worshipping the Golden Calf ? … 3000 people died.

In the first Pentecost of the New Testament, when the Holy Ghost was given… 3000 people were saved ??
Don’t you just love Pentecost? ?
